Botswana ~ RAW Botswana, Motswiri

RAW (Ride & Walk) Botswana operate safaris from Motswiri camp in the Selinda Reserve, on the north east fringes of the Okavango Delta. The main camp is close to the Selinda Spillway, an ancient watercourse linking the Okavango to the Kwando-Linyanti floodplains. The area combines the Okavango’s open floodplains (to the west and immediately north of the camp) with permanently dry grassland and thick, riverine forests that line the Spillway to the east. Motswiri has exclusive access to over 120,000 acres of pristine bush, an area that supports a huge variety of game, a great diversity of vegetation and wonderful birdlife. With its unique setting, game and birdlife and its management ethos of attention to detail and flexible, personal service, whether you wish to ride, walk or combine the two, at Motswiri you will be in the best of hands.

Safaris are possible for 3 to 10 nights with 5 to 7 nights recommended to fully enjoy the area. Motswiri camp is open year round.

HORSES & RIDING

Horses: The horses include part Thoroughbreds, Boerperds, Arab and Kalahari crosses. They average between about 14hh and 16hh, are well mannered, well cared for and responsive and forward going to ride. Grooms look after the horses on safari and prepare them for rides. Tack is either good quality English style or McClellan style saddles. Riding groups are usually limited to a maximum of 6.

Hours: Flexible and tailored to suit but up to about 4 to 6 hours riding a day, out from camp or to fly camp. Rides are broken with rests, for lunch and game viewing.

Pace and experience required: To ride at Motswiri you need to be a fairly experienced rider who is comfortable riding at all paces from a walk to fast canter in open country. You will be riding in a varied, open area where there is 'big' game including elephant and lion. The going on the safaris is good, there are places for long canters and you will enjoy it more if you are riding fit. If in doubt about ability please contact us.
