Peru

8 night hotel based trips exploring Peru’s Sacred Valley of the Incas (optional extension to visit to the legendary ruins of Machu Picchu).

Where is it?

In the Peruvian Andes, south east of Lima, starting with a night in Cusco.

What is it like?

Carefully designed to ensure acclimatisation to the high mountain environment, after a night in Cusco, you’ll be met and taken to a hotel at about 8,500 feet in the heart of the Sacred Valley and introduced to Eddy’s beautiful Peruvian Paso horses. There is a day to get used to the horses and unique Peruvian riding style. After this, you’ll head off riding a route across the Urubamba River, following old cobblestone roads and dry dirt trails, past small mountain settlements and highland terraces to lush high pasture. You’ll meet local Quecha Indian children who watch over sheep and cattle in the mountains and families who eek out a living in the hills, a real insight into local rural life. Nights are in a comfortable hotel in Yucay, allowing plenty of time for rest after high altitude exertion. (After the ride there is an optional extension to visit Macchu Picchu). The riding isn’t fast but you need to be a well-balanced, fairly experienced and confident rider to adapt to the smooth Paso gait of these wonderful Peruvian horses.

Who does it suit?

If Cusco and Macchu Piccu are on your bucket list, this is the trip for you! You’ll return with a greater understanding of the people of Peru, its history, local life and culture – and a better rider to boot. The riding isn’t fast but you need to be a well-balanced, fairly experienced and confident rider to adapt to the smooth Paso gait of these wonderful Peruvian horses.

Why we love it

It has everything that is special about Peru – local life, legendary historic sites and really wonderful Paso horses (we’re certain they are the best you will find on any ride in Peru). Enriching travel and an unbeatable way to ‘do’ Peru.
