Spain – Segovia

7 nights riding from village to village, staying in comfortable hotels and paradors, with short 4 night breaks also available. Rides are offered from set dates March to June and late August to October.

Where is it?

The province of Segovia is in Central Spain, north of Madrid, in the Meseta, the great high plateau of the Iberian Peninsula.

What is it like?

The rides offered here are a journey back in history, following routes through open landscapes, ancient woods and river valleys. Most start and end in the medieval city of Segovia, a UNESCO World Heritage Town, which boasts a magnificent cultural heritage including the spectacular 1st Century AD colossal Roman Aqueduct and the Alcazar Fortress with its stunning views of the city. On 7 night rides, accommodation is in different hotels; 4 night breaks are usually based in one historic hotel with 3 full days to explore.

Who does it suit?

We think these are the perfect European choice for discerning riders who love responsive, energetic horses, historic hotels and guiding, back-up and support that is personal, friendly and in general, second to none! You need to be a reasonably experienced, confident and fit rider who enjoys a ‘sporty’ riding pace – there’s plenty of open going – and is comfortable with a variety of terrain. It’s definitely ‘history – at a canter’!

Why we love it

The unbeatable combination of historic sites, accessible by horse, and open, largely unspoilt countryside, that is ideal for riding. You’re within touching distance of one of Spain’s most beautiful historic cities, but there are also glorious mountain views and your riding is in no way compromised, making these rides unique. The guiding team are excellent too and take huge pleasure in showing you Spanish history – at a canter!
