Riding in Kenya with Laura Collett:
15 to 22 December 2026

An unmissable opportunity to join world class event rider Laura Collett on one of our favourite riding safaris. FEI European Champion in 2025, Olympic individual bronze and team gold medallist in 2024, Badminton winner in 2022 and Olympic team gold medallist in 2021 – Laura has a string of remarkable achievements to her name. She’s also adventurous and great fun – the perfect match to ride with Offbeat Safaris, who have been operating top quality adventurous horse safaris in Kenya for over thirty years. The safari companion you dream of meeting and we’re delighted to offer this one-off opportunity to join her and the Offbeat team – only 10 places available.

Where is it?

In Kenya following a camp-to-camp route along the northern edge of the Mara game reserve between the Loita hills and the Mara River.

What is it like?

The area you’ll ride through is predominantly open, rolling grassland plains, with patches of thick bush and woodland. There are rocky hillsides where the escarpment drops into the Rift valley, and the Mara River winds its way through bush en-route to Lake Victoria in the west. There are no fences, just magnificent views over distant hills and there’s game all around …. zebra, giraffe, elephant, buffalo, monkeys, baboons, hippo, lion, cheetah, leopard, hyena and a huge variety of colourful birdlife. Riding between carefully chosen campsites you feel ”in” the landscape, amongst the game and part of the natural environment – yet your bed will be comfortable, your shower hot, your drinks cold and your senses alive. The company? Adventurous, inspiring, knowledgeable and fun – in fact, all you could wish for as safari companions.

Who does it suit?

Experienced, confident riders who – like Laura and the Offbeat team – love an adventure. You’ll need to be confident to ride from camp-to-camp across country, over varied terrain where there is ‘big’ (and potentially dangerous) game and where you can meet the unexpected at any turn. You should also be riding fit – the open going cries out for long, exhilarating canters and the pace may be fast. Camps will be comfortable, service in them exemplary, but authentic safari style rather than modern amenities, is the camp byword. If you’re someone who prioritizes the thrill of experience over formulaic luxury and are looking for inspiration and behind-the-scenes insight into what it takes to get to the top – this is the adventure you’ve been looking for!

Why we love it

For us, a riding safari with Offbeat is everything a special holiday should be: an exciting, professionally run, highly personalised adventure that leaves you on a high and wanting more. Much of the magic comes from Offbeat’s wonderful horses, the area’s abundant game and superb riding country—but there’s something deeper, too. The whole experience feels generous, with a genuine desire to make every moment the best it can be. For us, nothing beats riding across country from camp to camp, ending the day around a campfire, tired, exhilarated, drink in hand— and sharing these campfire evenings with inspiring companions who are fun, friendly and at the top of their game, is without doubt the icing on the cake!

Day 5

Another moving day, riding west across the Mara plains to the Mara River on the Park boundary. At one of the famous wildebeest crossing, horses will ford the river (unless it is in complete flood) and after a lunch break on the far bank, ride up the Soit Olololol escarpment. Reach the new camp, set up in a forest glade on top of the escarpment with fantastic panoramic views, at tea time. Dinner and night at the new camp.
